Spartan Construction Management announced today the completion of our first ground-up development in Oregon and second ground-up facility to date.
FreeUp Storage Sandy is a 353-unit storage facility with a total area of roughly 51,000 square feet situated at 16555 Champion Way in Sandy, Oregon. Drive-up storage spaces and heated inside units are available at the self-storage business.
SCM served as the Owner’s Representative and Construction Manager for this four-building storage complex in Sandy, Oregon. The new building comprised a new office as well as a combination of drive-up, interior, and climate-controlled units that required life-safety systems.
This project encountered several challenges, including tight municipal design standards, severe site grade changes, little laydown, and soil quality issues owing to the area’s yearly rainfall. SCM was able to overcome these problems and generate new chances to open the first phase of the project and handover to operations for lease prior to the completion of the entire project.
This is a big addition to the SCM construction portfolio. It puts us on the map in Oregon and solidifies us even further in the self-storage industry.
SCM continues to expand our presence nationwide with this new addition, and we will continue that growth into 2023 and beyond. This facility grows SCM’s operational economies of scale as it pursues other projects in multiple states and ground-up development in the Pacific Northwest region.
