After a four-year stint in Germany with the US Army and receiving an Honorable Discharge, he began working as a Laborer and Equipment Operator for an Earthwork and Utility company in Minnesota. He continued to advance his career by taking on roles as an Estimator, Assistant Project Manager, and Project Manager in Commercial General Contracting. In 2008, Eric and his wife decided to move to Hawaii, and in 2009, Eric received an opportunity to work in Afghanistan as a contractor. He eventually became the Operations Manager for Afghanistan (South), managing over 400 expatriates and overseeing missions throughout southern Afghanistan for both USACE and DOS contracts.

In 2014, Eric and his wife returned to Colorado, where they have resided since. Eric enjoys spending time with his family, which includes two French Bulldogs and four children, ranging in age from 30 years to 8 years, and a 3-year-old grandson.
